Raspberry and other Hacks

Bei Ferienabwesenheit werden maximal 5 Funksteckdosen (433 Mhz oder WiFi based Smart Switches) gemäss einem definierbaren Schema ein und ausgeschaltet. Die Funksteckdosen werden in verschiedenen Räumen platziert und die geschalteten Lampen täuschen Anwesenheit vor. Jede Dose hat ein eigenes 7-Tage Schaltprogramm, welches wöchentlich wiederholt wird.
Die Schaltaktionen sind extern des Programms in einem XML-File definiert.

I recently built what I call a Christmas TV based on a Raspberry Pi Linux Computer and Volumio-Software. It is based on a toy that I came across in a shop in Zurich.
The lovely 3D winter scenery ist illuminated with a number of led’s. A small train runs around in a circle with a tunnel. Just a tad kitschy but lovely. I call it Christmas TV.

Light Painting, also Malen mit Licht, ist eine Ausdrucksform, die verschiedene Ausprägungen hat. Meist handelt es sich um photographische Aufnahmen mit langer Belichtungszeit (3-30 Sekunden). Der gebaute Pixelstick mit 144 NeoPixel Led's wird durch eine kleine Controlbox mit dem Raspberrry Pi angesteuert.

Die Künsterlin Mica Elisabeth Scott gestaltet Projekte und Installationen an der Nahtstelle von Kunst und Elektronik/Computer. Eines ihrer Projekte, das Led-Triangle, hat es mir angetan und so startete ich den Nachbau dieses Lichtwunders mit einigen Anpassungen.
Im Zentrum des Led-Lichtprojektes steht das FadeCandy Board, ein kleines und äusserst geniales Board, welches in der Lage ist, bis 512 einzelne RGB-Led-Pixel (NeoPixel) anzusteuern. Dieselben Pixel wurden auch für den Light-Painting Stab verwendet.

Als Einstieg ins Thema Streaming beschloss ich, sowohl einen Musik-Server als auch einen Musik-Player auf der Basis Raspberry Pi zu bauen. Die Anschaffung von zeitgemässen High-End Komponenten wird für später ins Auge gefasst.

Ein Musik-Server auf Basis Raspberry Pi ist denkbar einfach aufgebaut: ein Pi Model 2 genügt, dazu passende Software geladen und ein 250 GB USB SSD als Musikspeicher. Der Musikplayer ist nur unwesentlich komplxer.

Home alone Monitor basen on a ESP32

Imagine you have an elderly relative living alone in an appartement/house and you are looking for a means to remotely check on his movements. This gadget is just what you have been looking for. It is based on an idea developed by Ralph Bacon who developed his device (based on a ESP8266) to monitor his Mum in Germany. Check it out on YouTube: Ralph Bacon on YouTube I wanted to use an ESP32 and therefore I started from scratch to make use of the multitasking capabilities of the ESP32 chip. I run 4 tasks concurrently and the code is very easy to read. For the prototype I used modules of the Adafruits Feather series. So far my prototype runs very well but is not finished yet.

This was the year I built my first computer based on the famous KIM-1 single board computer. 42 years have passed since then and I decided in 2020 to give it another try. Dies ist eine Beschreibung meines Raspberry Pi Musikservers, welcher die Server-Software Minimserver verwendet

Installation und Aufbau des kleinen Servers ist in der Projekbeschreibung zu finden. Zwei dieser Server laufen schon seit mehreren Jahren erfolgreich. In 2018 hatte ich ca. 1500 Cd's gerippt und diese danach entsort, resp. ins Brockenhaus gebracht. Heute geniesse ich die Auswahl und Steuerung der Musikwiedergabe auf dem Sofa. Suchen durch CD-Hüllen gehört eindeutig der Vergangenheit an.
